Job Overview/Summary

Working in a participative, team-based environment, using World Class Operations (WCO) processes and principles, the Senior Packaging Engineer is responsible for technical stewardship of all equipment in the Packaging department.

Develop thorough and practical solutions with minimal assistance to a wide range of difficult challenges using in-depth knowledge of industry and plant operations.

Apply maintenance and engineering skills to determine root cause of issues and to optimize packaging equipment, utilizing plant, company, and external resources.

Apply multi-discipline engineering and maintenance procedures to improve and upgrade manufacturing processes and materials.

Leads or participates on teams developing, designing, installing and starting-up new equipment, new processes, new products, line extensions, product improvements and technology upgrades. Develops, plans, leads and executes plant capital projects (typically < $1M).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical support of Packaging Operations forall aspects of the packaging process.

  • Develop and maintain expertise inpackagingfunctional specialties that can cost effectively be used to fully support the plant as the “on-site”PackagingEngineer. This will include supporting the day to day operations.

  • Provide manufacturing technology expertise to support plant-led projects and initiatives.

  • Maintain linkages with outside suppliers and inside users of equipment, systems, and manufacturing technologies to influence the development of, or acquire technology beneficial to the plant.

  • Provide technical leadership within the plant and foster the development of plant Associates, technical resources and capabilities in the plant while supporting positive progression of the team’s cultural journey as a high performance organization of enthusiastic owners

  • Technically lead thepackagingeffort to better enable plant Associates to understand and address concerns.

  • Provide thorough and practical solutions to technical problems. Demonstrates proficiency in analytical problem solving and the transfer of knowledge to others.

  • Develop personal skills and mentor / train teams (Engineering, Maintenance, andOperational) on new techniques, etc.

  • Able to coach & develop others as part of their daily work.

  • Able to influence and accomplish work through others.

Key Skills, Abilities and Experience Required

  • Degree Required:Bachelorsdegree inEngineeringfrom an accredited institution

  • 5+years experienceina packaging engineering role

  • Experience with interacting with and managing vendors, suppliers, contractors

  • Must have solid experience in mechanical and analytical decision making

  • Solid mechanical skills and the ability to use these skills tomake decisions andtroubleshoot

  • Demonstrated presentation, organizational, analytical, and verbal/nonverbal communication skills

  • Leadership ability with demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office,mainframe business applications, AutoCAD

  • Willing to work off-shift work as neededto support coworkers, operations and projects

  • Must have demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities

  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of the organization

  • Ability to function as a member of a cross-functional team by actively participating and adding value

  • Must be highly motivated and assertive with a strong commitment to succeed

Desired Qualifications:

  • Liquid-fill packaging experience in a Consumer Packaged Goods production environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across all levels of the organization

  • Fosters strong relationships among engineering and other business functions

  • Ability to lead project teams and successfully operate within larger project/program teams, and with all levels of plant organizations

  • WCO / WCM / TPM / Lean Manufacturing processes and techniques

  • Ability to drive continuous improvementsbyleveraging Lean Manufacturing processes

  • Experience analyzingpackaging equipment, operations and processesfor safetyimprovement,environmental sustainability,quality improvement,cost savings, loss elimination,failure analysis, technical training opportunities and feasibility evaluations.

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree, College Diploma, or Equivalent (Required)
