About the Position: This position is with The Chemical Biological Center (CBC). This is a Modified Term Appointment not to exceed 6 years and may be extended up to eight years. Employees serving under this appointment may be eligible for permanent conversion to a career conditional appointment after two years of continuous service.

Responsibilities
  • Serves as a Biological Science Laboratory Technician (Animal), providing practical technical support to research in a laboratory setting.
  • Work entails planning, coordination and performance of a variety of specialized and difficult toxicological and chemical techniques and procedures necessary to satisfy defined test objectives.
  • Reviews protocols and standing operating procedures (SOPs) for completion and compliance with Good Laboratory Practices regulations, Laboratory Animal Sciences accreditation and in-house regulatory policy.
  • Participates in toxicological research studies with various animal species to determine effects of compounds by all routes of administration.
  • Establishing potency, environmental hazard and/or to establish or predict safe levels of exposure for animals or man.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: (1) Perform complex surgical procedures in animals under anesthesia; AND (2) Conduct safe operations involving extremely hazardous chemicals generated as aerosols.

Education
