Manager of Cloud Infrastructure - Job Description

Title: Cloud & Storage Engineer

Reports to: Vice President of Engineering


Cloud & Storage Engineer is responsible for the design, build, maintenance and troubleshooting of both public and private cloud infrastructure and related systems. This position has a strong focus on the storage side of the cloud compute infrastructure. As a member of the engineering team, you will collaborate with other highly skilled technical staff who are responsible for engineering of the cloud compute, storage, backup and OS / application layers of overall product stack and internal systems. This hands-on technical role will require daily interaction with cloud compute platforms and their related systems.


  • Design, implement and maintain SAN and NAS storage appliances / solutions for use by cloud and other compute infrastructure.

  • Plan, execute and assist with ongoing cloud platform migrations with legacy cloud platforms

  • Maintain a strong understanding of emerging hardware and software technologies and their corresponding value to business strategy and product offering. Stay up-to-date on the latest hosting / cloud service provider architecture / design methodologies, marketing and technology trends in the hosting and cloud services space.

  • Assist with the build effort on new public / private / hybrid cloud compute and storage infrastructure from proof of concept through production launch and ongoing maintenance.

  • Lead and provide ongoing administration, maintenance and problem resolution of existing SAN / NAS storage infrastructure and related software.

  • Lead, develop and maintain effective real-time monitoring systems to ensure proactive responses to server / storage events and maintain uptime standards according to published SLA?s

  • Troubleshoot and resolve escalations from the teams support departments within defined OLA?s and processes

  • Collect and publish effective KPI?s and metrics on real-time and historical monitoring data points. Use data points to provide effective capacity planning and forecasting of future capital spend.

  • Effectively collaborate with the development, devops, technical support, provisioning, implementation and sales teams to accomplish cross-departmental projects and tasks.

  • Create and maintain strong vendor relationships. Negotiate cost effective contracts and renewals as needed.

Desired Skills

  • Expert level experience with VMware vCenter, vSphere and vCloud Director

  • Expert level experience working with enterprise class SAN / NAS infrastructure from Nimble, EMC, NetApp and Dell.

  • Proven experience working with compute platforms from Cisco UCS and Dell

  • Proven experience with Microsoft server OS, Microsoft active directory, CentOS / RHEL and Ubuntu OS in enterprise-class / carrier-class computing environments

  • Knowledge of cloud platform orchestration layer tools and automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, CloudBolt and OpenStack.

  • Knowledge of software designed data centers (SDDC) methodologies and best practices

  • A passionate attention to detail

  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced, high tech environment

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong oral and written communications skills.

  • Ability to write and publish effective end-user technical documentation.


  • BS/BA degree coupled with at least two years? relative work experience or the equivalent.

  • Certifications in Cisco, VMware, NetApp, Nimble, Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure technologies a huge plus!

  • Flexibility to be available during non-business hours for projects, maintenance and non-planned emergency events.

  • Able to commute to the office 5 days a week. Limited work from home options

  • Ability to lift 70 pounds
