Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a Construction Project Manager with 12+ years of experience to support our US Construction Group by managing large, complex construction projects.

These projects typically require coordination of a large number of inter-related tasks and management of multi-disciplinary technical teams and subcontractors. Project size varies from $2M to $100M and may include design management, decommissioning and demolition, environmental remediation, horizontal and vertical construction.

Ideal candidates will possess strong leadership, communication, team-building, and stakeholder management skills. The individuals will have a proven track record of pursuing and executing construction projects at federal government or commercial/industrial facilities.

Work Location:

This position is job-site/project based. Project is located in Maryland. Follow-on assignments will also be CONUS based.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Managers are responsible for the Financial, Schedule, Safety and Quality performance of their assigned projects. They are required to maintain a thorough ‘big picture’ understanding of their projects, and to recognize and act upon priority tasks without supervision. In addition to their own work, they are required to effectively delegate tasks and supervise project teams to include superintendents, foremen, project engineers, QC managers, Safety officers, project controls staff, project clerks, procurement staff and designers.

  • Coordinate directly with estimating and pre-construction staff to start-up new projects. Convert estimates to budgets, coordinate permits, develop project staffing plans and set-up document control processes.

  • In collaboration with support staff, prepare project execution plans, QC plans, site specific safety plans, schedules of value (SOV) and other required project documentation.

  • In collaboration with the project superintendent, develop site logistics plans.

  • Manage the procurement/buy-out process: Conduct scope review and issue subcontracts and purchase orders. Resolve scope gaps.

  • Manage subcontractors and vendors: Ensure their work is scheduled and coordinated well in advance. Provide direction as requested or required. Ensure compliance with subcontract terms, and adherence to the overall project schedule.

  • Develop, maintain and ensure compliance with the overall project schedule.

  • Ensure proper implementation of the corporate Health, Safety, Security and Environment program, and any applicable project specific policies and procedures. Intervene to resolve safety concerns immediately.

  • Manage the QC process: Review and process submittals. Coordinate with designers of record to ensure materials are approved, released and shipped to the project site in accordance with the schedule. Ensure received materials comply with project specifications. In collaboration with the project superintendent and QC manager, inspect workmanship and identify and resolve quality discrepancies promptly.

  • Manage the RFI process: Analyze and process RFIs. Coordinate with designers to ensure RFIs are answered in a timely manner, and that RFIs are returned to the appropriate trades.

  • Manage the contract documents: Ensure updates and changes are distributed and posted. Ensure project correspondence and electronic document files are up to date and organized.

  • Manage the change process: Identify and communicate scope changes, prepare and submit cost and schedule change estimates, negotiate and process client change orders and issue subcontractor and vendor change orders.

  • Manage project budgets including labor, materials and procurement costs, accounts receivable (pay apps), cash flow, forecasting (projections), contingency and allowance accounting and profitability.

  • Lead project status meetings. Prepare and distribute meeting agendas and minutes.

  • Manage project commissioning, start-up, client occupancy and close-out processes.

  • Supervise project demobilization, staffing transitions and document archiving.

  • Develop and maintain professional, collaborative relationships with clients, designers, subcontractors, regulatory staff and other project stakeholders. Work with appropriate stakeholders to address and resolve problems promptly.

  • Maintain compliance with the Wood code of ethics.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing.

  • Mentor junior staff.

  • Exercise independent professional judgment not subject to close review. Be able to read and interpret complex project plans and specifications.

  • Keep corporate leadership up to date with respect to project financial, schedule, safety and quality performance, and any significant project issues.

  • Prepare and submit periodic project reports.

Additional Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Capable of providing an effective Quality Assurance / Quality Control role in his/her technical discipline.

  • Effective at representing the firm in verbal presentations to clients.

  • Meet with client representatives at the direction of more senior personnel, and conduct him/herself in a manner compatible with the firm’s professional standards and financial goals.

  • Capable of preparing moderate to large sized multi-disciplined technical and price proposals for clients.

  • Travel to project sites, client, designer or subcontractor offices or facilities, or other remote locations as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or a related discipline is required.

  • Minimum of 12 years progressive experience in construction project management with 5+ years as lead Project Manager.

  • A record of successful project execution is required.

  • Experience on U.S. Federal (USACE or NAVFAC) or large commercial/industrial client projects is desired.

  • Experience in the USACE Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) is highly desirable.

  • Experience on environmental remediation projects, particularly with radio-active materials is a plus.

  • Experience on design-build projects is a plus.

  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

License/Certification Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record is required.

  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Architect (RA), Professional Project Manager (PMP) or similar is preferred.

  • US Army Corps of Engineers Construction Quality Management (CQM) certification is preferred.

  • OSHA 30-Hr certification is preferred.

  • LEED, Design-Build Professional or Certified Healthcare Constructor certifications are desirable.
