The incumbent serves as the supervisor of the Architectural Maintenance Shop, Baltimore Campus,
Facilities & Engineering Service, VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS). He/she directs various immediate, recurring and long-range maintenance and repair functions and projects involved in the operation and upkeep of a 700,000 square foot acute care medical facility, comprised of hospital, research and administrative functions.
A clear understanding of the Environmental Protection Agency's Renovate, Repair and Painting program is required Duties include but are not limited to: Keeping abreast of improvements in the various fields of engineering, materials, and diversified kinds of equipment, determining the most economical use of new products without sacrificing safety and future maintenance. Reviewing all work required and notifying the Maintenance Foreman of resources required, which may include, but not limited to manpower, materials, and equipment. Establishing a cooperative and good working climate that encourages employees to participate in achieving management goals in a prompt and efficient manner. Reviewing and analyzing statistical reports for shop percentages regarding effectiveness, cost analysis, work backlog and timely completion of scheduled work. Interviewing applicants and makes selection recommendations to the next higher-level supervisor for Maintenance and Operations for review and consideration. Reviewing the work performance of personnel under their direct supervision with particular reference to skills learned, efficiency of production, ability to perform work of higher levels, etc., Reviewing the work requirements for personnel in order to determine additional training needs to improve their ability to perform assigned work in an ever changing state of the art environment and to keep work output at the maximum level.
