OVERVIEW The Metal Worker is responsible for metal fabrication at the domino Sugar refinery in Baltimore, MD.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • All position electric welding or heli-arc welding on aluminum, steel, cast iron, and stainless

  • Solders neatly and proficiently with gas torch

  • Cuts metal to dimensions, contour or bevel

  • Brazes cast iron casting, brass to steel, copper to steel, cast iron to steel or any of the aforementioned to stainless

  • Unblocks lines, repairs leaking lines, valves, flanges, and other fittings

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs all types of valves

  • Installs, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs disc, thermostatic, float-thermostatic, inverted bucket and impulse steam traps

  • Fabricates and erects from blueprints, sketches or oral instructions, ducts, transition pieces, vessels, girders, tanks, or other steel or sheet metal work

  • Performs other duties as assigned

WORK EXPERIENCES

  • A minimum of 3 previous years of experience in the welding trade or in a related trade is required

  • Must be able to work within precise limits and standards of accuracy

  • Must be qualified to operate forklift, boom lift, and other mobile industrial vehicles

  • Must be able to set up and operate drill press and must be able to use all power and hand tools normal to the trade

  • Must own a complete set of tools normal to the trade

  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches fabrications drawings, submittals and product specifications

  • Must be able to work metal shaping machines

  • Must be able to perform complex welding of steel, iron, and other metals with stick, tig and mig methods

  • Must have knowledge of steam, water, and air systems

  • Must have knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the trade

  • Basic arithmetic skills, including calculating offsets, including for miter pipe and/or fitting

  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time during the day

  • Regularly scheduled Monday – Friday 7AM – 3PM; must be able to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly

  • Must be able to use hands and arms to reach, push, pull, lift, carry, and manipulate materials and tools

  • Must be able to climb up and down ladders, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb constantly throughout the shift

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED required
