Senior RF Engineer
Senior Electrical Engineer will lead and be responsible for the technical aspects of new design programs for radomes and antennas and work closely with a team to bring the product from concept to production. Will be an individual contributor for electrical designs on antennas and radome projects. Will be a high energy and detailed individual, capable of working independently and with a small team in the antenna and radome design/development/production field. Will work on new products from the proposal phase all the way through production and have a material contribution to the companies’ shipments due to SDRL submittals and customer design reviews each month.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Must have an active security clearance or be eligible for a clearance.
Be responsible for the hands-on design and realization of individual antennas and radomes
Use computational electromagnetic analysis software (Ansys HFSS, VBROP, PMM) to design and predict performance on various types of antennas (spiral, Vivaldi, patch, slot, horn, etc.) and radomes (nose, leading edge, blister, dorsal, etc.)
Participate and guide the testing of RF hardware for required performance metrics: VSWR, insertion loss, gain, polarization, radar cross section (RCS), etc.
Antenna requirement evaluation, initial concept trade-off and development, in-house and customer presentations, travel, and technical proposal writing and cost/schedule estimating.
Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems involving antenna/sensor-based applications such as electronic warfare, electronic attack, electronic support measures, communications, geolocation, direction finding, etc.
Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
Interface well with other people at all levels including customers, use initiative in applying solutions to assignments. Contributes to integrated product teams.
Detail oriented individual capable of creating, maintaining and executing a technical program plan and tracking team members inputs to ensure program milestones are achieved.
Troubleshoot radome and antenna measurement issues and implement corrective actions.
Implement best practices for measurements of antennas and radomes.
The ideal candidate will have used Orbit/FR positioning equipment and Keysight network analyzers.
Will primarily work in an office environment but will also be hand’s on in one of our direct illumination chambers, compact range or outdoor range to test new products for qualification and first article.
Specify design and materials for radomes to be produced to meet customer specifications.
Assist in the preparation of proposals including design concepts, costing, writing sections and making presentations to management and customers.
Design new antenna and radome products and test new materials to meet anticipated customer requirements or to add new products and technologies.
Provide support to Manufacturing to answer questions or resolve technical issues related to the manufacture of the radome products.
Creation of test plans and procedures to test radomes and verify compliance with customer specifications.
Able to analyze outputs from the anechoic chamber measurements, prepare summary reports and compare to customer specifications.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education & Experience:
Minimum of a Bachelors of Science in Engineering or Physics
10+ years experience as an Antenna or Radome Engineer (or equivalent) in Aerospace or RF Microwave industry
RF antenna testing experience utilizing network analyzers, PNAs, anechoic chambers, near-field ranges, etc.
Ability to schedule and execute measurements at internal and external facilities and perform measurement analysis and troubleshooting.
Demonstrated ability to apply technical expertise in RF engineering and to leverage knowledge of other related disciplines.
Demonstrated ability to lead RF efforts and tasks and to guide technical project teams toward the completion of program goals and milestones.
A current DoD clearance is not required to be eligible for this position, however applicant must be willing and eligible for submission within 60-90 days after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access. Physical/Mental Demands & Work Environment:
Position involves sitting, standing and/or walking. Position requires ability to frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects and occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to move objects.
The work site is an industrial manufacturing operation and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required in some aspects of the role.
Work usually performed in air-conditioned office environment.
