Position Summary

The Lighthouse is Under Armour’s state-of-the-art Design and Innovation lab located in Port Covington, Baltimore. This is where we make athletes better by creating and building our latest apparel innovations using advanced design, materials, techniques, and equipment. The Innovation Sewing Technician will play a key role in building UA’s apparel prototypes, test samples, and small-scale production.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for assembling garments according to the design sketches and create prototype samples by performing all manual and machine sewing applications.

  2. Position requires the technician to sew a variety of products for various categories, including outerwear, compression, bras, and much more.

  3. Execute component and/or complete sewing operations within a team/modular approach to provide full garment prototypes from a pattern.

  4. Perform embellishment operations including heat seals, pad printing, patches, and embroidery as needed.

  5. Analyze manufacturing “sew-ability” and provide feedback for increased efficiency, reduced cost, improved quality, and/or adds innovative features.

  6. Execute “mock ups” or partial garments to show construction methods.

  7. Take part in repetitive production assembly operations when needed.

  8. Operates all types of assembly machines equipped with manual and automatic components, Human Machine Interfaces, PLC and other programmable devices.

  9. Maintains work area, machine, and equipment, using broom, rags, and cleaning compounds to keep from damaging fabric throughout the sewing process.

  10. Perform autonomous maintenance functions to keep equipment operating in optimal conditions.

  11. Collaborates with Technical Designers, Designers, Engineers, Mechanics and Managers

  12. Proactively engages in the prevention, identification, and control of hazards and risks leading to occupational accidents, occupational diseases, and fires and explosions.

Education And / Or Experience

High School Diploma, GED (General Education Degree) or equivalent and at least 2 years of related, industrial sewing experience.

Other Requirements


Demonstrated mastery of sewing techniques using industrial (high-speed) equipment.

Experience in the sports apparel industry preferred.

Experience working safely with manufacturing-based technology.

Must be able to function well in a team environment

Ability to follow detailed instructions.

Ability to think critically.

Quality of work must meet UA standards.

Good time management skills and able to manage time to handle multiple priorities


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents and procedures.

Ability to read and write emails and other business correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, etc.

Ability to communicate with all team members.
