Highlight is seeking a Communications Specialist to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR), Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) team in Bethesda, MD. You will be responsible for planning, developing, coordinating and, in some cases, leading communication and outreach activities related to SBIR/STTR programs and initiatives. You will also coordinate the dissemination of information that informs and educates the community about policies, programs, services, resources, and activities. You will direct special events and other activities intended to develop interest in the SBIR/STTR programs, including webinars, videos, and other events as needed. Additionally, you will play a key role in planning and executing the annual HHS/NIH SBIR/STTR conference. You will coordinate with the OER Communications office, IC communication offices and other agency SBIR communication offices, especially as it relates to the NIH Regional Seminars, National SBIR events and the SBA SBIR Road Tour.Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversee and maintain the social media accounts, including Twitter pages.
Coordinate outreach and program Help Desk support activities, make recommendations regarding the development and modification of the applicable program website(s).
Analyze and evaluate new information technology developments to determine their applicability to and potential effectiveness for meeting communication needs.
Write, prepare, modify, format, revise, and coordinate a variety of communication and educational materials for use in widespread outreach efforts.
The individual may be expected to travel and conduct SBIR/STTR outreach, including event management and public speaking, 10-25% of the time.
U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.
Must be able to obtain a Public Trust.
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or a related discipline; Master’s preferred.
Biomedical research knowledge. This requirement may be met by education or experience.
Familiarity and expertise working with the NIH or other HHS agencies.
Fast learner, proactive, creative, problem-solver.
Ability to establish and develop relationships with stakeholders and targeted demographics.
Experience in or willingness to lead Diversity & Inclusion efforts.
Must have comprehensive experience in marketing and outreach, writing and editing, social media and web 2.0 technologies, website content development, public relations, and event planning.
Must have prior experience in the communications field and should have interest in life sciences, technological innovation, and/or entrepreneurship.
Proven management, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The ability to acclimate to challenging and diverse situations, work independently as well as a part of a team and will have a positive, proactive attitude.
