This position is responsible for the primary 24x7x365 support, maintenance and system availability of the z/TPF mainframe platform which runs business critical Production, Test and Development application systems within this environment. Responsible for line management, task management, technical direction and overall Service Level accountabilities for the z/TPF mainframe infrastructure. The role participates in efforts researching, designing, documenting and implementing infrastructure components that are standards based, high performance, highly available and secure delivering the required business functionality.


Education and Experience


· Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience/certification

· 7+ years’ overall experience in information technology

· 3+ years’ overall experience in z/TPF on Z mainframe technologies.

· 3+ years performing all aspects of zTPF Coverage work


  • Graduate degree

  • Technical certifications

  • Experience with zVM and Linux on Z mainframe technologies

  • Technical leadership experience in a sourced environment

  • Mainframe hardware configuration and network management

  • Performance monitoring and tuning

  • Assemblerand REXX programming.

· Experience in 24x7x365 operational support of mainframe systems


  • Provide input, design, development and implementation strategies andinitiatives for the future maintenance of a world class z/TPF System tomaintain Marriott International’s competitive advantage.

  • Responsible for technical softwareproduct installation, maintenance and performance tuning.

  • Provides technical leadership andmentoring for other members of the mainframe services support team.

  • Supports the technical architects inperforming research, analysis and design of technical solutions to meet currentand future user requirements.

  • Supports the capacity planninganalysis and reporting on computing systems for procurement planning andperformance monitoring.

  • Resolves and makes decisions on morecomplex, non-routine service requests.

  • Understand the business and customer needs to introduce solutions thatgrow the bottom line and/or speed time to market.

  • Provide documents with a focus on how infrastructure services will beleveraged in the solution architecture.

  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of infrastructure servicesproducts.

  • Work closely with the enterprise architect to support alignment of planswith what is being delivered.

  • Support governance based on best practices and ensure proper alignment toprojects and major initiatives.

  • Lead analysis of the current environment to detect critical deficienciesand recommend solutions for improvement.

  • Lead analysis of technology industry and market trends to determine theirpotential impact on the infrastructure architecture.

  • Support Solution and Domain Architecture by providing current environmentstatus in terms of technology, software and infrastructure for projects in thedelivery life cycle.

  • Utilize capability modeling to align systems strategy and planning withbusiness strategy and goals.

  • Consult with project teams to identify when it is necessary to modify infrastructureservices to accommodate project needs.

  • Consult with architecture teams to identify when it is necessary tomodify the technical architecture to accommodate infrastructure needs.

  • Oversee the documentation of all architecture design and analysis work.

  • Define, design, implement and promote standard configuration and changemanagement, processes and practices.

Technical Leadership

  • Trains and/or mentors other teammembers, and peers as appropriate

  • Providesfinancial input on department or project budgets, capital expenditures or othercost/resource estimates as requested

  • Identifiesopportunities to enhance the service delivery processes

Delivering Technology

  • Performs morecomplex quantitative and qualitative analyses for service delivery processesand projects

  • Supports existingsystems and large projects in a minimum of one environment

  • Facilitatesachievement of expected deliverables and obligations of Services Providers

  • Validatescompleteness of requirements prior to Service Provider solutioning

  • Creates, updatesand maintains current state documentation of designs, processes and interfacesutilized by mainframe systems

  • Through theservice provider, plans and coordinates complex implementation overseeingquality control of systems functional design, usability, functionality, andimplementation

  • Advises supportdesk on change management as it relates to support and training of new systemsand processes

  • Ensures propercoordination with appropriate IT and vendor relations teams

  • Providesconsultation for routine and complex systems development

  • Ensures earlywarning to the business stakeholder executives regarding degraded or missedservice levels

IT Governance

  • Follows alldefined IT standards and processes (i.e. IT Governance, SM&G, Architecture,etc.), and provides input for improvements to the appropriate process owners asneeded

  • Maintains a properbalance between business and operational risk

  • Follows thedefined project management standards and processes

Service Provider Management

  • Validates thatService Providers develop and manage respective aspects of a project plan,including schedules, deliverables, and appropriate metrics.

  • Makes short termplans for the team to effectively utilize resources

  • Monitors ServiceProvider outcomes

  • Reviews estimatesof work effort for client project provided by Service Providers for accuracy

  • Facilitatestimely resolution of service delivery problems and minimizes the impact toclients
