Aerotek Mechanical CAD Designer (Creo/Pro-E, Sheet Metal) in Columbia, Maryland
An experienced CAD Designer is required with ideally 10+ years of experiences in flexible structure layout such as airships, sails,
unfolding sheet metal assemblies or structural tents. The successful candidate will be working closely with Aerospace engineers to:
Design aerostats and airships specifically transforming 3-D shapes into 2-D flat patterns for manufacturing.
Experience in lofting and matching the intersection of complex surfaces a plus.
Develop the detail design and completion of all drawings.
The candidate will ideally be proficient with 3-D and 2-D CAD systems.
The candidate will ideally have experience producing drawings in accordance with military standards (MIL-STD-100 and MIL-STD-3100) and ANSI Y14.5M specifications and be familiar with Mil-Spec hardware.
The candidate will also perform the following duties:
Drafting, Laying Out, and Specifying Technical Devices, Parts, and Equipment — Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used
Model and drafting of layout, parts and assemblies
Utilize CAD system to originate three dimensional geometric models and design layouts for complete new systems or portions of a complete system involving a large number of intricate and related parts and controls, complicated mechanical motions, complex structures with extreme stress requirements and close tolerances
Develop engineering ideas and experimental concepts into basic designs working from sketches, design specifications and/or very general directions from the Design Engineer
Travel may occasionally be required to client’s manufacturing facility in North Carolina, where it may be necessary to access crafts from high lift equipment, and to work in situations where some agility could be required.
Proficient knowledge of 2-D drafting with ME-10 (CREO Elements/Direct Drafting) and solid modeling such as SolidWorks and/or PTC/CREO is highly desired).
Ideal Educational Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, in addition to some higher level technical schooling in the field of Computer Aided Design/Drafting or other related drafting experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties assigned.
Ideally have a thorough mathematical skills including algebra, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry.
