The Director of Strategic Procurement is responsible functionally for the management of spend and strategic sourcing across all the sites of Terumo Medical Corporation. This includes leading a team of sourcing professionals to develop and execute strategic initiatives that include negotiating and contracting indirect, direct, and capital purchases, supplier quality and commercial assurance, vendor management and relationships, cash, merger, and acquisition, NPI, purchase to pay process, office supplies/equipment, insurance, benefits, outside services. Develops organization capability via talent acquisition, personnel growth, and training, to achieve and support the goals and objectives as established by the Business and Key Functions/Operations. Additional responsibilities include fostering an environment of continuous improvement and change management, with emphasis on maintaining a positive, energetic, and safe workplace, to reliable supply and that assures a high-level of commercial competitiveness. This is a multi-faceted role that will challenge and reward highly skilled and ambitious sourcing/procurement leaders possessing strong business and financial acumen.
Lead initiatives to develop and implement purchasing strategies, policies, practices and procedures for indirect expenses focusing on best practices and savings.
Provide subject matter expertise in sourcing and contract negotiation, including the identification of new sources and programs for indirect goods and services, while providing strategic benefit in cost, quality, responsiveness, and continuity.
Provide leadership in the development of the sourcing capability and team, implementing a best-in-class sourcing program.
Develop, establish, and coordinate RFPs on major categories of indirect spend. Partner with key suppliers to create solutions and cost proposals, evaluate & select suppliers, and manage contracts for key stakeholders.
Leverage and negotiate pricing on combined volumes of purchases prioritizing savings opportunities and taking a unified approach across all purchasing entities/sites to get the lowest possible total cost; concentration on cost savings.
Manage supplier diversity program for the category, including creating a glide path for improvement and an integrated plan to drive YOY increases in Tier 1 and 2 diverse supplier spend.
Identify, select, and steward preferred suppliers for the various sites and business partners.
Interface with business leaders and associated stakeholders to support their strategic objectives as well as to identify and prioritize cost-savings and efficiency opportunities cross functionally.
Respond to and address supplier service and / or quality issues to mitigate negative impact on the company.
Meet or exceed all budget deflation and productivity commitments for cross-business projects.
Lead cross-functional teams to identify, qualify, negotiate, and implement suppliers that support the business across various functions.
Establish working relationship with Procurement leaders across Terumo Americas.
Spearhead direct and indirect spend analysis, identifying areas of opportunity to drive cost savings across all Terumo entities
Monitor and improve existing prices and service levels.
Identify and drive process improvements, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
Capture and implement applicable business requirements in new supply contracts.
Conduct Requests for Quotes (Tenders); facilitate supplier productivity projects; negotiate one-time and longer term contracts; use sourcing tools (i.e. bid processes, benchmarks, competitive market data) to drive deflation savings, company efficiencies, and service improvements.
Establish dashboard to track category spend, inflation/deflation, key projects. Implement projects to control new sources, off category and maverick buys.
Harness vendor expertise, as well as conduct due diligence on technology trends that provide solutions to meet the company’s changing business requirements.
Establish & lead the Category Management process framework to deliver a series of benefit types, such as price reduction, rebate, cost avoidance, and value add.
Utilize Six Sigma, Lean, and Kaizen tools to continuously improve sourcing processes and performance.
Implement rigorous supplier scorecards to measure suppliers.

Frequent contacts with internal personnel and outside customer representatives at various management levels concerning operations or scheduling or specific phases of projects or contracts. Conducts briefings and participates in technical meetings for internal representatives concerning specific operations.
Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Bachelors of Science, business, engineering, or another relevant field required. Advanced business MBA/Master's degree preferred
15 years' experience in Medical Device or related industry
Minimum 10 years of progressive sourcing or vendor management experience
Minimum 5 years of management experience
Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM)
Strong working knowledge of GMP, ISO 9000, and other applicable regulatory requirements is necessary
