We are currently seeking a Cell Culture Technician . This position is located at the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Integrated Research Facility located at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland.
The Cell Culture Technician will be responsible for providing technical skills to the development of cell culture processes at the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Integrated Research Facility located at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland . Working within an existing team, the technician will work towards development and optimization of upstream cell culture processes and in line with overall project plan and milestones. He/she will be responsible for proficiency in the use and maintenance of all equipment and procedures for the assigned area with ability to cross-train in related support areas.
Consulting and Planning with internal cell culture customers
Cell line intake, banking, inventory, growth and QC
Cell line seeding density optimization for Plaque assay and virus growth
Plaque assay, viral growth and purification, viral growth curves, transfection and mini-genome analysis
EM and fluorescence microscopy analysis
Monoclonal antibody production
Monitor the laboratory budget and prepare reports as requested.
Help to maintain inventory of lab supplies, common lab stocks, and lab equipment
Assist in training others on equipment and assays
Perform routine operation of instrumentation to include QC, QA, and maintenance
Maintain current laboratory notebook ensuring protocol, date, and specimen traceability
Working in BSL-3 and BSL-4 environment upon completion of required training
Maintain an accurate inventory of specimens, reagents, and supplies as required by the department
General lab organization and maintenance.
Maintain cell line, plasmid, freezer, and reagent inventories.
Prepare packages for shipment; maintain lab cell lines, supplies, common lab stocks, and lab equipment.
Participate in general laboratory housekeeping, to include biohazard waste management
THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
US citizenship or permanent residence
Bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences
Minimum of 3 years of applicable experience.
Background in cell culture practices
Excellent interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills, ability to work independently, design experiments, and analyze data are required.
Fluency in English
The candidate will be required to work in BSL4 containment environment and will be required to pass physical exams and participate in vaccination programs.
The candidate must also pass government ANACI and Select Agent background investigations.

Basic understanding of laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
Previous BSL-3 or BSL-4 containment experience
Experience with viral Select Agents is highly desired
