Goddard Space Flight Center Supervisory Aerospace Engineer (Flight Structures) in Greenbelt, Maryland
In this role, you will serve as an Associate Branch Head with expertise in the analysis, design, development, and test of precision structures and mechanisms for electromechanical and optomechanical systems of space flight instruments and spacecraft.
Supervises a group of employees performing work up to the GS-15 level and provides administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit.
Performs the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Provides advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters.
Defines guidelines and performance expectations for staff members, monitors worker's performance and conducts work performance critiques.

Provides discipline systems engineering support, technical guidance, and leadership including monitoring contractors engaged in the work.

Leads the work and provides technical direction to mechanical and structural engineers whose levels of experience range from junior to senior.

In addition to the basic education requirement (shown below), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level work including design, analysis, fabricating, assembly and test flight vehicle precision structures and mechanisms or their components, structural design, materials, and techniques for precision electromechanical and optomechanical assemblies used in spacecraft and space flight instruments for in-house or out-of-house projects. You must have successfully completed a bachelor's or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science*, or other field of physical science.
*Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.
