Title:

Systems Engineer

KBR is currently seeking a highly skilled systems engineer to provide the business knowledge and technical expertise to implement strategies, evaluate products, and build an infrastructure that supports the future needs of NASA.

In this role, you will work with complex systems, designing, developing, and integrating them at every stage of its life cycle. If you are reliable in delivering mission-critical infrastructure with an eye toward accessibility, optimization, and security, we’d like to hear from you.

Objectives and responsibilities of this Role

The Systems Engineer will build, deploy, manage, and maintain new and existing infrastructure systems. Monitor and analyze data center infrastructure resources and system applications. Implement and maintain backups redundancy strategies. Be responsible for the security of the managed infrastructure systems

and for collaborating and defining policies, procedures, and technical documentation including reports, design, maintenance, operational, and support procedures. This position will also be responsible for the on-going development of automation strategies. Engage with upper management and stakeholders with requirements, status reports, activity summaries, and achievements.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

• Communicate with stakeholders to identify their needs and visions

• Use expert-level administration and optimization of hosts and servers to ensure high availability and appropriate resource management

• Standardize and automate processes and monitoring using scripting and advance technologies offered by the data center

• Install and configure operating systems, software, and hardware components, and clearly document the design, maintenance, and support procedures for routine tasks to leverage IT support staff.

• Routinely test software for bugs, redundancies, and security issues.

• Conduct high-level root-cause analysis for service interruption and establish preventive measures.

• Create reports and documentation out-lining findings and solution; oversee the overall backup strategy and daily operations for secure backups and restore testing.

Must Have Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in technology or computer science

• 7+ years related experience

• Strong interpersonal, written, oral communication skills

• Strong time-management and priority management skills

• Strong Linux/Unix background

• Experience with RHEL and related operating systems

• Scripting experience (Shell/Perl/Python, or related language)

• Strong understanding of network protocols and principles (OSI network layers, TCP/IP)

• Experience with designing/managing virtual infrastructures (VMWare/Nutanix/Hyper-V)

• Strong reasoning, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills

• Expertise in creating, analyzing, and maintaining large-scale infrastructure deployments

• Experience with private-cloud backup and recovery

Preferred Qualifications

• Proven ability to think outside-of-the-box

• Technical documentation skills

• Familiar with software-defined networking (SDN)

• Familiar with HA environments

• Infrastructure migration experience

• Familiar with the ELK Stack with emphasis on Elastic Search

• Configuration Management (CM) experience (Ansible/Puppet/Chef)

• Familiar with Containers (Docker/Kubernetes)

Nice to have Qualifications

Experience/familiar with:

API scripting Citrix (ADC/ADM/Storefront) Splunk JIRA

RedHat Satellite Terraform

Network troubleshooting tools (Wireshark/tcpdump)

Database management (MSSQL/MySQL/PostgreSQL)

Firewall management (Juniper/sVRX)
