Position Summary:Under the supervision of the Plant Manager, the Plant Superintendent is responsible for ensuring efficient operation of the following departments: Blending, Siding extrusion, Grinding, Warehouse operations, Production Scheduling, and Maintenance management. This person is responsible for implementing the most cost-effective means of producing product while meeting the quality, safety and delivery requirements. The Plant Superintendent manages the operations of the plant in the absence of the Plant Manager and supports a safe working environment in all areas throughout the plant at all times. This person must correct or report unsafe acts or conditions through appropriate channels of resolution.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Siding Supervisors, responsible for the production scheduling and extrusion departments.

  • Oversee the Warehouse Manager, responsible for the inventory, shipment and delivery of product, change-over, and repack departments.

  • Oversee Maintenance Department Supervisor and Blending/Grinding Department Supervisor, responsible for their respective departments.

  • Participate with Plant management to define culture, promote labor relations, improve communication systems and policies, and support the overall growth and direction of the Hagerstown Plant.

  • Assign projects to subordinates, guide, monitor, and evaluate results.

  • Promote continuous improvement via benchmarking plant operations, collaborating with other plant superintendents to maximize quality, process and safety standards.

  • Recommend selection and deployment of subordinates, eliminate production waste and reduce variability, participate in the selection of vendors and monitor quality.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management/Engineering with some experience in manufacturing management required. An MBA is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Philosophy and the perpetual inventory system.

  • Strong working knowledge of extrusion process, particularly vinyl, and familiar with vinyl product lines.

  • Strong managerial skills to motivate and direct large groups of employees, along with the ability to direct a continuous operation.

  • Advanced business knowledge in budget preparation and management, and general management theories.

  • Excellent communication skills to deal tactfully with a complex organization.

  • Ability to prioritize and deal with multiple tasks.
