Automation Technician Engineer, Harman, MD

Swing Shift: M-F: 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Kelly Engineering’s client is a rapidly growing Biotech Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) recently recognized as the 2018 Life Science Company of the Year by the Maryland Tech Council (MTC). The client provides process development and GMP manufacturing services for Phase I/II clinical trials to industry leaders as well as start-ups utilizing novel technologies to produce innovative gene therapies and vaccines for adults and children with critical unmet medical needs. We are building a new 150,000 square foot single use technology GMP facility which will support Phase III trials and full GMP manufacturing.
The Automation Technician will be part of a team reporting to the Manager Automation and will provide key support for various manufacturing systems. This will include Programmable Logic controllers (PLC), process equipment such as Single-Use (SU) Bioreactors, SU Chromatography, Purification & Filtration systems, and Other Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) systems in Manufacturing.
This role will be responsible as the first-responder to Manufacturing system troubleshooting. Including, but not limited to, verification of system connectivity, network communication, performing loop checks/verification, verification of industrial component functionality (i.e., PLC errors), control panel troubleshooting, basic troubleshooting of computerized systems, and like-for-like part replacement.
The role will also require performing on-going Automation PMs and tasks including, but not limited to, user management configuration, system backups, backup review, and support to Commissioning or Validation projects.
For various project assignments/initiatives, the automation technician is responsible for partnering with Quality Assurance and Manufacturing groups in maintaining compliance with CGMP requirements. The role provides multiple opportunities to learn new skills in IT, automation and process analytical technologies and help advance innovative gene therapies to patients.
Must be able to work and be on call off day shifts including weekends in rotation with a staff of engineers.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Understand and support all GMPs, safety, and environmental regulations. Periodically reviews automation documents, preventive and corrective maintenance, and SOPs to ensure compliance with GMP and safety.
First-responder to equipment and system troubleshooting. Escalation to Automation Engineers based on assessment and preliminary repair tasks.
On-floor support of manufacturing and process development.
Perform Automation Preventative Maintenance tasks (for example, PLC backups)
Complete Automation Support Tasks (for example, User Management)
Education & Experience:
Associates Degree or equivalent qualification.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) are required.
Must be well-organized and have ability to prioritize tasks.
Experience with PLC troubleshooting and performing backups
Experience with Control Panel troubleshooting. For example, loop checks and like-for-like parts replacement.
Experience with reading and understanding P&ID and Wiring diagrams
Experience with basic identification of system network or communication failures
2 to 4 years’ experience in an Automation role supporting process, laboratory or facility equipment.
Working knowledge of the regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical applications.
