JOB TITLE: AIRFRAME COMPOSITES ENGINEER DEPARTMENT: MECHANICAL ENGINEERING REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR PRODUCTION/MECHANICAL ENGINEERING CLASSIFICATION: EXEMPT
Primary Function: Serve in a subject matter expert role in the aircraft structures division, as lead composites engineer. Mentor junior engineers on composite stress analysis, serve as technical point of contact to customers and flight clearance authorities regarding composite engineering efforts, and hold project briefings pertaining to aircraft structure modifications.
Provide budget hours for engineering efforts specific to aircraft modifications.
Draft loads and stress reports for project designs.
Interface with FAA and NAVAIR flight clearance release authorities in the approval process
Serve as technical point of contact for fabrication and manufacturing processes.
Participate in internal design review meetings.
Recurring FOD training and awareness, upon hire and annually.
Recurring counterfeit prevention training and awareness, upon hire and annually.
Perform other duties as are necessary and/or required.
Designing aircraft modifications to established standards (FAA and/or NAVAIR).
Experience in working with DER’s for STC/8110 efforts or TAE’s for Navy IFC processes.
Will substitute aircraft experience for extensive experience working load-rated composite structures for another industry.
Ability to perform stress analysis using classical hand calculations.
Familiarity with Solidworks 3D modeling.
Ability to write reports detailing required aspects for structural substantiation.
Experience with testing processes and procedure for composite strength verification.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace with minimum 5 years’ experience in the composites industry or Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace with minimum 2 years’ experience in the composites modification.
