About This Role

The Unmanned Systems group is looking for a Junior Designer to support multiple military aircraft product lines, inclusive of Unmanned Systems programs such as the AerosondeTM, Shadow RQ-7Bv2 and NIGHTWARDENTM Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System (TUAS). This position will be responsible for creating and checking technical content and data packages for various components, sub-assemblies and aircraft assemblies.

As a Junior Designer, you will receive tasking from Senior Designers and Engineers. Tasking will include development of electro-mechanical devices and equipment, working with engineers on the creation and checking of engineering documentation to support production and technical data packages (concepts, layouts, drawings, 3D models, parts lists, Engineering Change Notices, (ECN’s), vendor parts, etc.) in compliance with Military, ASME, and Company standards and process guides. The Junior Designer will function as the Component Designer, who catalogs off the shelf, vendor and supplier-controlled hardware, models and specifications. The applicant will be expected to quickly develop skills necessary for utilization of company tools (NX10, Matrix and JIRA).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Receive, create and record JIRA tickets for tracking of assignments

  • Translation of engineering requirements to source and vendor control documentation

  • Cataloging of vendor and supplier-controlled components, models and specifications

  • Release of specifications, drawings and ECNs within the eMATRIX system

  • Creation of mechanical solid models from conceptual sketches, specification sheets and verbal direction

  • Interface with Product engineers, Manufacturing engineers and Machinists to produce accurate product representations

  • Perform tolerance calculations (“tolerance stacks”) of simple assemblies

  • Development of component and subassembly drawings to ASME Y14 standards, inclusive of all planform, sectional and isometric views, notes and GD&T

  • Generation of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams from sketches, drawings, datasheets and verbal direction

  • Produce engineering Bills of Materials in the eMATRIX system in concert with product definition release

  • Checking of drawings per company and ASME Y14 standards

  • Generation of Engineering Change Notices per company standards and engineering direction

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Release of specification, drawing and ECNs within the eMATRIX system

  • Associates Degree in Drafting and Design Technology, or equivalent preferred

  • Experience in a common solid modeling software package, with Siemen’s NX preferred

  • Experience as a mechanical designer, with commercial or military aircraft hardware design and integration experience preferred

  • Ability to visualize components and assemblies in 3D

  • Knowledge of drafting principals

  • Familiarity with and ability to check drawings to ASME Y14 standards

  • Working knowledge and use of ASME Y14.5-2009 (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) applications and fundamentals

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products –Word, Excel, Outlook

  • Highly organized and efficient

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
