Location/Division Specific Information
This position is part of the Research and Development team located at the Hunt Valley, MD site. This site is part of the Bioproduction Division within the Life Sciences Group.
How will you make an impact?
The selected candidate will generate dry powder pilot material, execute approved study plans to assess physical and biological performance of the media, and directly support various projects and analysis of scientific data. A Scientist I must be able to work flexible hours.
What will you do?
The candidate will produce powdered media and carry out laboratory experiments associated with the development
of cell culture media formulations.
Responsible for staging and compounding of raw materials, milling, blending, process control monitoring, and good documentation practices to produce dry powder media
Perform physical and biological testing of dry powder and use equipment such as pipettors, balances, osmometer, turbidimeter, moisture meter, particle size analyzer, and pH meters
Performs cleaning, inspection, calibration, and assist in the maintenance of equipment.
Handle raw materials per site protocols and safety requirements
Generate electronic batch records for use in producing dry powder batches
Make observations and conduct analysis of data in support of product and process quality.
Maintain accurate lab notebooks and data files to support protection of intellectual property in accordance with Thermo Fisher standards
Comply with all company safety, quality, team, and site procedures and regulations.
May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned
How will you get here?
Education
Bachelor's degree (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology/Biomedical engineering or other related discipline with equivalent knowledge and experience) with 0-2 years of experience in a manufacturing/lab environment
Experience:
Experience with small scale mammalian cell culture techniques
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate scientific results in clear, concise, and accurate manner
Excellent organization skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate and manage multiple project tasks
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of aqueous chemistry of biochemical, organic compounds, polymers and metal salts used in cell culture media.
Understanding of chemical, biochemical and physical interactions of cell culture media and reagent components
Theoretical and practical experience in formulation and manufacturing of cell culture media, supplements and reagents is highly desired.
