Qualifications

Basic Qualification:

You must demonstrate at least one (1) year of the defined Specialized Experience and meet the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR).

Specialized Experience

GS-13: You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $102663) if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level performing duties as a canine trainer. This includes, but is not limited to, canine training experience developing, delivering, and updating courses for advanced canine training methods asit relates tocanine explosive detection and handling.

Conducting training for one or more of the following tactical canine disciplines: Canine Patrol: potential or actual offender identification, tracking, and/or apprehension by canine; or,Emergency Response Team (ERT) canine teams; or,Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) canine teams; Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must meet the following requirement(s) to be considered qualified for the position: Must possess trainer/instructor certification in Canine Explosive Detection from an accredited agency, nationally recognized law enforcement canine organization, or canine industry recognized and respected civilian vendor.

Must possess trainer/instructor certification in Tactical Canine Patrol/ERT/SWAT from an accredited agency, nationally recognized law enforcement canine organization, or canine industry recognized and respected civilian vendor.

Must submit copies of your Canine Explosive Detection and Tactical Canine Patrol/ERT/SWAT certifications with your application.

Must possess experience as a canine trainer at a Federal, state, county or local law enforcement agency or military mission.

Must possess a current valid driver’s license. Please indicate license number, state of license, and expiration date. Examples of canine industry recognized and respected civilian vendors (not all inclusive): Vohne Liche Kennels, Houston K9 Academy, Global K9, Alderhorst International Police K-9 Academy.

NOTE: DoD Kennel Master certification, paired with military special operations assignment(s), suffices for both Canine Explosive Detection and Tactical Canine Patrol/ERT/SWAT certifications.
