Applied Physics Laboratory Payload Systems Engineer in Laurel, Maryland

Position Description Do you have experience in space payloads and space systems engineering? Do you want to be part of a team exploring our solar system or pioneering space missions such as the recently selected Dragonfly mission to Saturn’s moon Titan? If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL. We are seeking an experienced space systems engineer to lead and coordinate the development and accommodation of instrument payloads to support space flight missions. This engineer must be organized and team oriented with the ability to plan and prioritize tasks and quickly respond to issues and questions. As a Lead Space Payload Systems Engineer, you will… * Coordinate and facilitate technical communication between instrument and spacecraft teams. * Organize work flow, define work products, and coordinate multi-discipline technical experts within the project team to resolve interface and accommodation issues * Lead and participate in trade studies to assess technical options for satisfying instrument and spacecraft accommodation implementations * Develop interface and accommodations technical documentation between instruments and spacecraft ## Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have... * B.S. (or higher) in engineering, physics, or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of professional engineering experience. * Broad technical experience base and strong analytical skills. Demonstrated communications skills delivering presentations and in written documentation. * Experience working space mission flight projects and familiarity with instrument payloads and spacecraft. * Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have… * M.S. (or higher) in systems engineering. * At least 5 years of professional experience working on a space flight project. * Experience in working with instrument teams and instrument accommodation on spacecraft missions. * Experience developing instruments for spacecraft missions.
