Position Description

If so, we are looking for someone like you to joinJohns Hopkins APL as a Postdoctoral Fellow!
We are seeking creative aerospace engineers, systems engineers, computer scientists and space physicists to help us discover our next defining innovation. As a member of our team, you will join our hardworking staff in the Space Systems and Analysis Branch (SA Branch) where we apply systems engineering methods to solve complex problems. The SA Branch is leading efforts in mission design, guidance and control, navigation, space environmental modeling, autonomous control of operational systems, end-to-end mission concept development, and science data fusion and visualization.
As a Senior Space Engineer, you may…
Engage with the broad national and international scientific communities to support current and future missions
Develop tools to support science-based analysis in planetary science and Heliophysics
Develop models to create physics-based simulations of space-based missions and instruments
Perform orbit determination and analysis for near-Earth Spacecraft and Space Situational Awareness
Develop CONOPS and algorithms to support Attitude Control
Participate and lead new space development programs, as well as team with other staff to develop novel concepts for future missions
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications if you have...
A PhD in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, computer science, physics or a related field
Expertise in the development and writing of proposals for spaceflight instruments and missions
Demonstrated ability to obtain external funding for space-based instrumentation and data analysis projects
Demonstrated and effective communication skills
You will go above and beyond our minimum qualifications if you have...
Experience with Astrodynamics and Control Systems
Experience with Space Environmental modeling and autonomous control of operational systems
Experience with the end-to-end mission concept development
Domain experience in plasma physics and planetary geology
Domain experience with MILSATCOM
Demonstrated and effective leadership and management skills
Experience developing software in Java, Python, or Matlab
Experience with energetic particle instruments, magnetometers, or plasma measurements
