The MITRE Naval Aviation Systems Department’s (N233) mission is to advance Naval Aviation solutions with urgency ensuring warfighter dominance against current and future adversaries in defense of our nation. This is accomplished by delivering timely, effective, and sustainable capabilities to ensure the warfighter’s mission success and safe return home.
The Naval Aviation department is seeking a Software Engineer / Computer Scientist to design, develop, test and implement software applications for Naval aviation sponsors. These software engineering projects will touch on a multitude of cutting-edge aircraft platforms, both manned and unmanned, as well as systems requiring the implementation of various open architecture standards. Opportunities in research and development exist in such areas as Machine Learning, Modeling and Simulation, and Distributed Computing to support Naval aviation capabilities of the future!
Execute full software engineering life cycle processes (concept vision through test).
Understand Open Architecture guidance and construct new tools and standards for government sponsors to easily adopt hardware and software architecture standards and systems for acquisition or verification purposes.
Create applications for embedded systems using new developing standards on platforms for demonstration or research purposes.
Engage directly with sponsors and work independently on newly adopted applications for capabilities to better serve the DoD.
Research and analyze data, open source, and DoD standards to solve complex problems.
Model Software Architecture, understand and identify the necessary items that go into Systems and Software Architecture in order to create a gap analysis.
Bachelor’s degree and 5 to 8 years of related experience
Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
Programming language experience in either
Java or similar object-oriented language
Understanding of software design patterns and best practices
Understanding of the Agile Software Development Life Cycle
Strong technical writing skills such as drafting software requirements and technical guidance
Possess and maintain a Secret level security clearance
Obtain and maintain a Top Secret level security clearance
Understanding of model-based system engineering (MBSE) principles
Working knowledge of several programming languages, such as:
Java or similar object-oriented language
Git, Virtual Machine
Visual Studio, Eclipse
Working knowledge of DoD acquisition programs
Machine Learning experience or course work
Strong interpersonal, briefing, and communication skills
Understanding of Verification and Validation (V&V) Principles
Understanding of basic networking, cybersecurity, and OSI Model Layers
Obtain and maintain a Top-Secret level security clearance
