Energy Systems Group Engineering Manager in Linthicum Heights, Maryland

ESG is currently looking for a highly motivated and energetic professional to join our team as an Engineering Manager for our Midwest regional team. We are looking for an individual who has a Bachelor’s degree with at least three to five (3-5) years of related experience in the energy services and/or performance contracting industry, as well as at least two (2) years of management experience . ESG needs a leader that can effectively collaborate with our National Director of Engineering to align engineering team performance with strategic goals and objectives.

A key to consistent delivery of Energy Systems Group’s systems and services is our attention to Engineering. Engineering can involve the technical support required to develop small installations to large, multi-million dollar projects. An Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the activities of the Engineering group to ensure all goals and objectives of the project development phase are accomplished. He or she is also responsible for providing

monthly status reports to senior management. Effective Engineering management applies technical knowledge expertise, project knowledge, people and communication skills, as well as management talent, in a proactive manner to ensure that our commitments are met on time, within budget, and at the quality expected by the customer.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Establishes schedules and budgets for all Engineering functions initial sales support through project completion

  • Manages, directs, and coordinates, the Engineering group to ensure that projects are on schedule and in budget

  • Manages the engineering process to develop, the project scope of work, accurate cost estimates consistent with the scope of work, energy savings estimates based on documented calculations and assumptions, and the energy savings guarantees consistent with the calculations and an understanding of their limited accuracy, contractors and suppliers for proposals, and approves changes to ensure financial achievement goals

  • Establishes staffing needs for the Engineering group as required to meet business plan; arranges for recruitment or assignment of Engineering personnel; ensures smooth transition between engineering and Project Manager

  • Assigns new projects to the engineering team ensuring an equal distribution of workload on each team member

  • Manages, directs and coordinates activities of Engineering personnel and consultants to ensure documentation and projects progress on schedule and within prescribed budgets

  • Provides guidance and advice in the selection of the subcontractors and vendors to deliver the project per our requirement and standards

  • Provides the training and professional development of the Engineering group; assists in customer presentations and provide technical support

  • Manages responsibility for developing and implementing the measurement and verification plan for each assigned project, and working with the M&V department to assure the obligations are being met and tracked appropriately

  • Maintain, manage, and train on current technology

  • Performs all duties as deemed necessary by management

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with three to five (3-5) years' related experience in performance contracting in the delivery side; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Two (2) years management experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree from with five to seven (5-7) years' experience in performance contracting (preferably the delivery side)

  • Three or more (3+) years' management experience

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent organizational skills and communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels of management in ESG

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret mechanical and engineering periodicals and schematics, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations

  • Ability to compose and write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and make informed decisions

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

  • Must have the ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse workforce and customer base

  • Ability to travel

  • Maturity and professionalism to effectively handle frequent exposure to senior members at ESG, as well as with external organizations, customers, and the public
