Position Title: Lead, Environment, Health and Safety

Job Code: EVP5

Job Location: Millersville, MD

Position Purpose:

  • The EHS Lead is responsible for implementing, and maintaining the policies, programs, and procedures within the L3Harris Environment Health and Safety management system. The EHS Sr. Specialist will ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and County and Federal requirements.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Participates actively in the management of the organization to establish policies and directions to achieve leadership within the EHS program.

  • Implement the EHS program within the scope of associated contracts, and responsible for compliance with all applicable EHS and corporate management standards.

  • Work with internal and external customers, to include supporting associate contractors.

  • Ensures that all applicable internal and external reporting requirements are performed accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Conducts workplace surveys, safety audits and assessments. Advises management of conditions requiring corrective action.

  • Provides/supports EHS briefings and training sessions as appropriate to fulfill regulatory requirements and foster a safe working environment.

  • Performs accident investigations to determine probable cause and produces and maintains necessary documentation and permits.

  • Maintains required site permits and licenses.

  • Establishes and maintains necessary contacts with site, county, state, federal regulatory agencies.

  • Experience with Large Quantity Generator – Hazardous Waste Program, Hazardous Communications-Global Harmonization Systems (GHS), performing weekly container inspections, appropriate labeling, Emergency Procedures, and Hazardous properties.

  • Maintains required records in accordance with regulatory and L3Harris, to include PPE, training, certifications, inspections, audits, Hazardous waste pickup’s, fire prevention etc.

  • Work is performed in multiple environments to include office, project, outside, and site location support.

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Flexible to off-shift or weekends activities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience.

  • Experience with OSHA, EPA, and DOT requirements.

  • Prior experience managing EH&S programs in a highly regulated environment.

  • Competent computer skills related to Microsoft office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint along with ability to find technical information on the internet when required.

  • Dynamic and active communicator – able to personally lead selected projects and communicate with external firms and consultants.

  • Strong collaboration skills – demonstrated ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects with limited direction.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Safety, Environmental and Health/ Industrial Hygiene programs such as Lock out Tag out, Machine Guarding, Electrical, Lead, Ergonomics, Hazardous Communication/Chemical Safety, Contractor Management, Behavior Based Safety Systems and Emergency Response.

  • Degree (Bachelors or Masters) in a related Health and Safety, Environmental, Science, or Engineering discipline highly preferred.

  • Aerospace or defense industry experience highly desired.

  • Prior experience using EHS common systems, databases and reporting tools.

  • EHS high performance programs, VPP, SHARP, ISO 45001, 14001, 9001.

  • Certifications: DOT Hazardous Waste Shipper, First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications, Certified Safety Professional or other EHS related certifications.
