Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) - Engineer/Senior Engineer

How you’ll contribute

You will address highly complex and diverse issues that focus on implementing, maintaining, and monitoring the compliance of environmental, health, and safety objectives to ensure United Therapeutics remains a safe place to work and is environmentally responsible with sustainable practices. You will also help establish and maintain EHS policies, programs, and operational procedures that ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and corporate standards.

Key job responsibilities

  • Act as a catalyst for EHS program implementation corporate-wide and drive continuous improvement and sustainability practices

  • Establish and maintain EHS metrics and focused corporate social responsibility management systems that align with United Therapeutics mission and values

  • Support business growth by assessing new projects and processes for EHS impact

  • Oversee assigned environmental programs such as water stewardship, air quality, and waste minimization

  • Act as a member/team leader in assigned program audits and inspections, make recommendations through written technical reports, effectively communicate findings, implement best practices and closeout audit reports

  • Develop, plan, and implement EHS training and awareness programs

  • Response planning and prevention of situations such as injuries, illnesses, and chemical spills as a valued member of multifunctional team

For this role you will need

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, environmental, or related technical discipline; master’s degree preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years’ EHS experience; 7 years for senior level

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical or highly technical and complex industries, such as aerospace or chemical; 5-7 years for senior level

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations with the ability to interpret regulatory issues and provide a recommended action plan

  • Prior experience and knowledge of EHS management systems and related global industry standards

  • Demonstrated effective internal EHS monitoring and auditing experience

  • Demonstrated collaborative contributions in successful identification and control of EHS risks

  • Experience in an FDA regulated environment preferred

  • Proficiency in MS Office software programs and other job-specific software

  • Ability to travel up to 10%
