General Summary
This position requires an individual possessing the abilities and skills to perform a variety of routine tasks that take minimal levels of instruction regarding execution and safety while working in a team environment. Shift work, call back status, and possible mandatory overtime may be required.
Essential Functions
Observes safety regulations;
Wears required personal protective equipment;
Follows and enforces recommended safety practices and uses appropriate traffic safety devices such as arrow boards, safety lights, cones and barrels, etc., for traffic flow protection;
Assists in repairs and maintaining wastewater and water mains and services, wastewater and water taps, and replacing defective meters;
Assists in the set up of sediment control devices;
Prepares vehicle pre-trip inspection forms, and various work documents, operates and cleans trucks and additional equipment;
Assists in replacing and maintaining fire hydrants, i.e. changing gaskets, leaky caps, and broken stems, operating nuts, etc;
Makes minor customer notifications concerning required repairs/service;
Assists in investigating and identifying solutions to utility problems, i.e., main, service, meter leak, stoppages, low water pressure, etc.;
Upon certification, operates and maintains vehicles and equipment such as backhoe, front-end loader, and dump truck;
Assists in operating various kinds of trucks, equipment to complete repairs and maintenance activities;
Assist with the installation of trench shoring devices;
Assists with rodding, cleaning, flushing, and televising sewer mains;
Picks up and disposes of spoil at designated work sites to include cleanup duties at facilities;
Uses two way radio, mobile data terminals andLANterminals to update work status;
Operates power and hand tools frequently to accomplish the work (air jack hammer, air drill, air impact gun).
Other Functions
Functions as an active and willing team member;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Environment And Physical Demands
Must be capable of lifting heavy objects (up to 90 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time;
Additionally, be capable of working in an environment where there are routine risks of exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, and air pollution;
The position may involve periodic risks of exposure to raw sewage, chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns;
Employees are considered to be essential personnel and therefore must report to work as scheduled under all weather conditions;

Minimum Education, Experience Requirements
Requires a High School diploma or equivalent.

Possession of valid driver’s license with no more than four points;
Obtain and maintainWSSCdriver’s permit within one year of hire or transfer;
Must pass Department of Transportation physical and posses aDOTMedical Card;
Must obtain and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tanker endorsement within a one-year probation period;
Note: Employees have two years from date of hire or start of position to successfully complete all skills demonstrations and testing requirements to maintain that level. Failure to do so will result in the employee being moved to a position equal to their existing skills and testing level, or they may utilize the internal posting process to obtain another position or be released.
