IAP is seeking an Engineer with experience in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Modeling and Simulation (M&S) to provide direct support to the Army Research Laboratory on Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. Individual will be required to create M&S software models for UAVs and UAV subsystems to include controls, sensors, actuators, and payloads.

Candidates must be a US citizen with an active U.S. Department of Defense SECRET clearance with SAP endorsement.

Essential Job Functions: (not limited to duties as described – performs related duties as requested)

  • Must be comfortable performing Modeling and Simulation (M&S) for UAVs and UAV autonomy.

  • Must be able to build code in a custom environment and integrate code into pre-existing code.

  • Be able to code in C, C++, and Python.

  • Ability/experience with PX4 open source flight control software for UAVs.

  • Ability/experience with Robot Operating System (ROS)

  • Ability/experience with integrating Unity game engine with ROS and/or PX4

  • Must thrive in collaborative environment working integrating code with and from other engineers and engineering project.

  • Perform in all phases of design, development, integration, test, and documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with all U.S. and local government reporting requirements.

  • Compile and submit operational status reports to senior management on program issues.

  • Works with multi-functional team to identify operational deficiencies and recommend various approaches for resolution of outstanding issues and requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and other practices set forth by senior management.

  • Works cooperatively and collaboratively under general guidelines or objectives.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Level of Supervision:


Education & Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s (preferably Master’s) degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science with 5+ years’ significant demonstrated experience.

License & Certifications:


Knowledge & Skills:

  • Work collaboratively with diverse team of engineering integrating to/with new and existing code.

  • Experience with PX4, ROS, and Unity game engine.

  • C, C++, Python

  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks independently.

  • Excellent follow through and time management skills.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

  • Standard work week, notionally Monday through Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.


Some travel is required (<5%).
