This is an opportunity for a creative Agile Design Engineer to join a dynamic and multi-disciplined organization in innovating for complex technical systems. MITRE seeks design professionals with various systems-level design expertise (e.g. scaled agile methodologies, Lean UX, service design, customer experience design, strategic design, transition design, etc.) to work with a team of experienced experts to lead strategic system design and related design management efforts.
You will challenged to create imaginative but practical solutions for government customers in collaboration with stakeholders from private, federal, state and local sectors. Specific responsibilities will include:
Exercise collaborative design methods to facilitate and lead problem definition efforts and the exploration of future solutions
Synthesize design research data and develop system design artifacts including but not limited to transition roadmaps, journey maps, storyboards, and service blueprints
Facilitate collaborative sessions with diverse stakeholders inside of MITRE and with Government sponsors to build consensus on project scope, priorities, vision, and actions
Lead cross-functional teams through the entire design process/lifecycle including problem definition, design research, prototyping, testing and launch
Clarify and support the design and execution of design methods and management practices in an Agile environment
Perform structured research of user communities, market solutions, and current sponsor product offerings to define user-centric products for major Government programs and projects
Work as an advisor, coach, and consultant to internal and external stakeholders and lead cross-functional teams to achieve desired outcomes
Experience integrating of Strategy, Design futures, and Systems engineering
Required Qualifications
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and virtual collaboration tools
Must have demonstrated proficiency and strength in verbal, written, presentation, and communications skills
Experience in the implementation of modern design practices and methodologies: design thinking, service design, UX strategies, modular design, agile requirements, set-based pattern design, etc.
Ability to design and deliver prototypes in fast-paced environments
Ability to facilitate business customers and technical teams from problem identification through system prototyping and user testing
Understanding of agile development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, SAFe, Feature and Test-Driven Development, Lean, Lean Startup, etc.)
Experience crafting user experience and user research strategies, information architectures, and interfaces for large software projects and programs
Experience using design tools and platforms such as Adobe CC, Sketch, Axure, Figma, Balsamiq, InVision, etc.
Experience using requirements and collaboration tools (Rational Requirements Composer (RRC), JIRA, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or PhD Degree in interaction design, systems design, service deign, design strategy, transition design, design futures, or strategic foresight
Candidates that possess a current/active US Government clearance are preferred
Experience in prototyping and automating models
Knowledge of emergent trends including Human Centered Design, Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive science
Familiarity with front-end interface and SW language experience. (Some of the preferred languages include: HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Ajax, JQuery, etc.)
Familiarity and ability to demonstrate development or application of Machine Learning and AI systems
Familiarity with systems engineering practices and mindsets (including system of systems)
Experience with strategic foresight methodologies
Basic Qualifications
Bachelors degree in applicable technical or design field
2 + years applicable design experience
must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a US government clearance
