Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.
About Operator - A Position
The Operator A position requires training and qualification to perform pipeline controls desk responsibilities. As an Operator A, you will monitor and control pipeline pressures and flow rates by remotely operating pump units and valves. Quality testing of pipeline product and understanding of limits and product specifications are daily responsibilities. You are someone who thrives in team environments, understanding the importance of clear and consistent communication for safe operations. The Operator A responds to alarms caused by normal, abnormal and emergency situations and understands how to safely proceed with operations.
What You Get to Do:
Desk responsibilities that include shift change, narrative logging, and batch scheduling.
Responds to alarms in normal, abnormal and emergency situations.
Interacts with shipper and customers for both receiving and delivering product.
Understands the impacts of other facilities upstream and downstream
Participates in Pigging Operations and provides relief to other operators.
Performs routine Pipeline Operations including valve movements, line fills, start and stop pumps, product movement switches, product deliveries, and product analysis.
Ensures all required documentation is timely and accurate
What You Bring to the Table:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) from an accredited education intuition. Will consider a combination of experience and/or education.
Live within a 60-minute commute of the work location.
Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record to drive company and personal vehicles to perform required tasks.
Proficiency in mechanical, hydraulic, mathematic, and some electrical skills are necessary for ongoing advancement in station operations.
Proficient in HMI, station software systems, alarm management, and batch scheduling.
Certifications and/or Licensures: Forklift training/licensing, Hazardous Waste Operations, Emergency Response (Hazwoper) training, Operator Qualification.
Ability to work 12-hour shifts on DuPont schecule subject to call-out and occasional overtime.

Physical Requirements & Work Conditions:
Work mostly indoors in a control room setting. Physical mobility to walk, sit, stand, reach, pull, push and bend. Digital dexterity for operation of calculator, PC keyboard and mouse. Hearing in the normal range. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Speak at a normal voice range. Climb stairs, vertical ladders up to 10 ft. and tank steps as high as 60 ft. without assistance. Color recognition for SCADA indications and product colors. Normal visual acuity for reading VDT screen, pressure charts, control panel counters, computer screens, gauges and other measuring devices. Physical strength to open and close manually operated valves and pressure vessel (trap, strainers, and filter) closures. Operate various types of tools and equipment safely and efficiently. May be required to use the following tools in the course of their duties: PC's, calculator, phone, 2 way radio, emergency equipment, hand tools, probe bar, personal protective equipment, vehicle, line locator.
This is a Department of Transportation (DOT) covered job and is subject to all applicable regulatory requirements such as testing for the presence of prohibited drugs and alcohol as defined under 49 CFR Part 199 as a condition of employment, to include pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable cause/suspicion and fit for duty testing.
